Slate Floor Tile

Natural Slate Floor Tile is very dense and unique.  Because of its density, it is also very strong, has superior durability, resistant against chipping, cracking, scratching and breaking.  It does need to be sealed on a regular basis to protect it from staining.  If slate is properly cared for, it will look amazing for decades.  Slate is one of those timeless tiling installations that never really go out of style.  There’s a ton of different colors and mixed colors on the market to choose from.

Since it is naturally forming, slate floor tile will be a completely unique system everytime it is installed.  One-of-a-kind natural and unique beauty in every single floor we install.  Although slate is a more costly installation, it’s also a very big plus when adding to your home’s resale value.  The added element of slate tiling in a kitchen or bathroom, tends to add that “wow” factor that makes the space stand out!  In the event that something happens to a slate tile, it is very easy to have the flooring restored to it’s perfect state.  Like any tiling project, be sure to have extra tiling added into the project to assure the tiling matches.

Grout lines are perhaps the most susceptible area to staining and mildew.  These lines will need to be protected regularly and they can be replaced without having to re-install an entire floor system.  Slate is very heavy and because of it’s weight, this can take us a bit longer to install.  In most cases, we do not recommend installation for 2nd floor installations due to weight loads constraints it imposes on the building structure.  Based on the characteristic of how slate floor tile is formed, it is often times difficult to plan a particular style around sample pieces.  Our advise is to come shopping with us, and bring along a few great pictures of the area to get tiling.  We’re always here to help!
